The foundation for my life comes from my roots, my ancestral lineage, and my personal belief systems. This piece was inspired by microscopic images of roots, scientific water flow diagrams, and a recently found photograph of my great-grandmother, Evangelina.
All of these elements and symbols come together to create a dialogue about my intrinsic connection to the desert, and my ancestors. The title of the piece is "Raíces" which is Spanish for "roots." As I continue to study my relationship to plants, I unfold more layers of my being and uncover more of my roots, exposing truths of the ones that came before me.
